The Epiphany


The Epiphany of Christ has been celebrated in the church since the 3rd century, originating in the Eastern Church. Originally observed as the celebration of the baptism of Jesus, it was one of three principal feast days of the church (the other two being Easter and Pentecost). Introduced into the Western Church in the 4th century, the character of the observance has shifted from the baptism to the manifestation of Christ to the Gentile nations, understood through the visitation of the Magi. The Sundays following the Epiphany all have a particular focus as Jesus is revealed in the world as our Incarnate God in Christ. Come celebrate with us and learn more about this very special church season.

Friday, January 6th- The Epiphany of Christ.

7pm - The Epiphany of Christ will be celebrated for all Episcopal Churches in the Eugene/Springfield area at Church of the Resurrection(3925 Hilyard, Eugene, OR). A dessert potluck will follow.

 

Sunday, January 8th – 1st Sunday After the Epiphany.

10am - Holy Eucharist. Our focus will be on the Baptism of Jesus.

 

Sunday,January 15th – 2nd Sunday After the Epiphany.

10am - Holy Eucharist. Our focus will be the blessing of the Incarnation.

 

Sunday,January 22nd – 3rd Sunday After the Epiphany.

10am - Holy Eucharist. We will hold our Annual Meeting after the service.

 

Sunday, January 29th – 4th Sunday After the Epiphany.

10am - Holy Eucharist. Our focus will be on home visits in our congregation.

 

Sunday,February 5th – 5th Sunday After the Epiphany.

10am -Holy Eucharist. Candlemas-the presentation of Christ in the Temple.

 

Sunday,February 12th – 6th Sunday After the Epiphany.

10am - Holy Eucharist. Our focus will be on healing.

 

Sunday,February 19th – Last Sunday After the Epiphany.

10am- Holy Eucharist. The Transfiguration of Christ.

 

Wednesday,February 22nd – Ash Wednesday –

The beginning of Lent.
